The Ylläs fell and its surroundings offer a great deal of things to see and to do all around the year. For example, Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park with its untouched nature and clean and fresh air provides possibilities for cross-country skiing, mountain biking as well as hiking. There are also plenty of special activities going on in the Ylläs area such as husky safaris, reindeer rides and horse riding tours. Here we will present some of the most popular activities in winter and in summer:
With over 300 km of ski tracks, 38 km of which are illuminated, Ylläs offers Finland’s largest network of cross-country skiing tracks with possibilities for both beginners and advanced skiers. The tracks are well maintained and along the skiing trails there are some cafés that offer drinks and some snacks. The skiing season in Ylläs begins in November and continues all the way until May.
Ylläs is the largest ski resort in Finland. The fell is 718 meters high and has altogether 63 slopes with different degree of difficulty; there are slopes suitable for both beginners and advanced downhill skiers. It also provides many possibilities for snowboarders as well as for telemark skiers and off-piste skiers.
In Ylläs there are various companies renting snowmobiles and offering guided snowmobile safari tours. On the safaris there will be a proper driving instruction and there are safaris for both beginners and advanced drivers. On the other hand, a skilled snowmobile driver can also rent a snowmobile and go drive independently on some of the Ylläs\’ well maintained snowmobile routes, which total about 300 km and connect to other routes that you can drive all the way up to the national border.
Most of the hiking trails are to be found in Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park, which provides over 350km of marked hiking trails. There are trails of different lengths but most of them are very easy to walk. You can go hiking independently or join a guided excursion provided by independent organisations.
In summer you can experience the Ylläs region also on bicycle. Here you can try downhill biking, mountain biking or just biking on the roads. There are also biking trails in the Pallas-Ylläs National Park.
In addition to the ones mentioned above, there are plenty of other things to do in Ylläs. For more information we recommend visiting the site www.yllas.fi/en/activities
